How to Have a Thrifty Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine girlies! How is your day going?

Kiddo and I spent today going on a quick play date, enjoying sushi lunch, and devouring chocolate-covered strawberries. Can't you see I'm tiring her out, so she goes to bed early tonight?

After we put the kiddo down, hubby and I plan to spend our Valentine's at home. Because we are living on one salary, we no longer have money for extravagant Valentine's celebration and presents. And since we already went out during the weekend, our actual Valentine's will be a frugal one.

However, it doesn't mean we won't have a good time. In fact, a thrifty Valentine's date is the funnest.

Wear something romantic

Clothes shouldn't cost more than a meal. If you dig enough at thrift stores or discount shops, you can find cute clothes for a great deal.

For Valentine's Day, I wanted to wear something romantic and flirty -- what better combo than a red shirt with floral details and sequins?

I got this top at Ross for $5 -- super thrifty, right?

Ross - one of the best discount stores in Seattle

Love this shirt's florals and sequins

Wore it with a pair of wide-legged trousers for tonight

Eat something sweet

Do you know what your man's favorite dessert is? Bet you he'd like to have some tonight.

Hubby loves chocolate, and goes soft for devil's cake. So I picked one in a heart shape.

Delicious Chocolate Devil's Cake from the local bakery

Coincidentally, hubby also bought me one of my favorite type of chocolates.

Ferrero Rocher

Write a love letter

Sometimes, the simplest things can make someone's day, or steal their hearts.

Ever since we met eight years ago, hubby and I have exchanged cards. Sometimes, we even do it out of the blue.

Even though words cannot express how much I love and appreciate him, I can certainly try.

Valentine's card - $3.99. Seeing him read it - priceless.

Buy flowers

Flowers, especially roses, symbolize love. They don't cost much, but say a whole lot. I was lucky that hubby bought roses for me.

Beautiful roses from my sweetheart

In the end...

Indulgent meals and expensive presents were nice for a couple of love chasing young-lings, but hubby and I have matured into a family that values time together more than what money can buy.

In the end, you just can't buy love.

Happy Valentine's Day!

How are you celebrating tonight?

  15. It's nice that for all your talk of frugal Valentine's Day you still managed to check the basics - sexy clothing, flowers, chocolate. It's good to hear you can be parents and still find time for those romantic moments. Enjoy!

Unfortunately reality interfered with B's plans to take me to dinner and a couples' massage - and my plans to indulge him in at-home foot treatments - I came home sick from my work trip. But luckily we show our love in everyday ways and reservations can be postponed.

The hubbs and I spent it at home exchanging cards and eating the chocolate covered strawberries he forgot about in the middle of the night when we woke up to pee and quench our thirst. Lol. I agree with you about the cards. I prefer to get a card with him expressing his feelings than any other gift. :)
Hope your night was special. And thanks so much for the comment!

We made yesterday all about the kids. I made waffles w/ strawberries and whipped cream for breakfast and then we made heart shaped pizzas for dinner. It was a lot of fun! =)

But the Hubs did surprise me with flowers at work AND we did an early V-day dinner date on Saturday!
