Asian Makeup Tips - All-Over Bronze (Beauty Blog Post)

Asian Makeup Tips - All Over Bronze (Beauty Blog Post)

Confession: I've ugly teeth.

They're misaligned, crooked and unattractive. They're the reason why I smile with my mouth closed in pictures.

I tried fixing them, but my teeth have short roots, and correcting them means losing a few. Dentists and orthodontists gave me suggestions, but all of them require too much money and a lot of pain. Then I finally decided to keep my teeth the way they are -- ugly or not -- and accept myself the way I was born.

Asian Makeup Tips - All-Over Bronze

While browsing TotalBeauty.com, I ran into Jarah Mariano's monochromatic makeover. The look is natural and beautiful, and the bronze tones fit her warm Asian skin. Plus, an all-over bronze looks great for summer.

Heads Up, Girlies! The Skin Regime is Coming. (Skin Care Blog Post)

I apologize!

For the short bursts of blog posts lately. Just trying to steady the publishing momentum.

Our baby started crawling, and is keeping me busier than usual. At the same time, our toddler switched to another pre-school, and is coping with the transfer. Plus, there are usually more summer time activities for the kids anyway.

As much as I try to, well-researched and well-articulated blog posts are hard to produce at the moment.

Coming up! The Skin Regime.

A while ago, a nice lady contacted me about reviewing her book, The Skin Regime. I felt uneasy about reviewing an entire skin care routine, but after seeing the 49-year-old's glowing skin, I wanted whatever "miracle" she proposed.

Really. You cannot tell that she's 49.

And when I read (from her website The Skin Regime) that she uses mostly natural products, I WAS SO GAME!

Please be patient.

Besides being swamped with kids' activities, I've also taken up several promotional work on Girlie Blog. (You might have seen more sponsored posts in the past two weeks or so.) But I will be doing The Skin Regime, and share the experience with you.

Having beautiful skin -- and doing it naturally -- greatly intrigues me. I can't wait to try out the routine.

Before I forget...

Thank you Dana (of The Skin Regime) for giving me this unique opportunity!

Dear Tom Cruise (Friendly Rants)

Dear Tom Cruise,

Jack Reacher was bad.

REALLY BAD.

It was down right intolerable.

Almost offensive.

You need to stop.

Stop playing young people, and stop the nice-guy thing.

None of them work for you anymore.

Try something fun.

Different.

Like a nutcase. Or is that too real-life?

Top Gun was good.

Cocktail was good.

Jack Reacher was not good. None of your movies since year 2000 was good.

So please, Mr. Tom Cruise, stop it with the bad movies!

Everyone else, thank you for reading my friendly rants!

2013 Bridesmaid Trends (Fashion Blog Post)

By Hillary Marshall

Frumpy and unsightly bridesmaid dresses are a thing of the past as today’s modern brides-to-be want their bridal party to look stylish and feel good in what they are wearing. Many common design elements of cocktail dresses and formal eveningwear are translating into bridesmaid dresses to create looks that are both dynamic and practical. Before you choose what your bridal party will be wearing on your big day learn more about the hottest bridesmaid trends of 2013.

Lace Overlays

Lace is often used in the construction of bridal gowns, so it is only natural that the trend spill over into the construction of bridesmaid dresses. The use of a lace overlay adds an element of romance and femininity to any style dress that works well with both rustic and elegant themed events. Brides that are looking for a more traditional style may prefer bridesmaid dresses that have an translucent exterior that matches the color of the dress bodice; brides that favor the contemporary will love lace overlay gowns that are made with contrasting colors like black on pink, or green on ivory.

Similarly, illusion necklines are creating substantial waves among members of the wedding world, especially with the booming rise in wedding decor inspired by the Great Gatsby. An illusion neckline is simply a sheer or lace panel that covers an opening in the design of the dress, giving it a flirty air without showing too much skin. This design can also be adorned with beading to enhance the roaring 1920’s aesthetic that everyone is currently lusting after.

Fashion Bloggers' Problem Solved - How to Respond to Rude Bystanders While Taking Outfit Pictures (Fashion Blog Post)

What on earth is that woman doing!?!?!?!?!

I'm taking outfit pictures for my fashion blog.

Leave! Me! Alone!

Luckily I live in a neighborhood where most residents are polite and nonjudgmental. When I take outfit pics outside, posing in unusual positions, neighbors leave me be, and try not to inflict embarrassment.

However, once in a while, I do get under-the-breath-but-loud-enough-to-make-recipient-feel-mocked sneers from bystanders.

As much as I'd love to say to them, "what the f*ck are you laughing at," I always hold my tongue.

There are enough problems in the world. I don't need to create more.

But hey. Here on my blog, a fashion blog, I can ask for sympathy.

Especially if you've dealt with the same problem with rude bystanders.

And if you have, perhaps you can use one of the responses below. I've created them especially for fellow fashion bloggers who received similar treatment during photo shoots.

Fashion Bloggers' Problem Solved - How to Respond to Rude Bystanders While Taking Outfit Pictures

1. Count, grin and bear it.

Breath, grin big, and count to 10 in your head.

Counting helps mute your surroundings. I use the same method in running, and it works like a charm. Whenever I feel like quitting, I count to a preset number in my head, and repeat until the finish line. A small mind game like this helps me stay focused through distractions.

What I'm Loving Right Now

Happy Sunday!

Today is Father's Day, and our family is busy celebrating.

This post will be short. Just wanted to share a few things I'm loving right now:

1. Non-Comedogenic Skin Care from Trader Joe's

Non-comedogenic skin care are products that won't clog pores, contain little or no oil, and feel lighter on skin.

The moisturizer and sunscreen below are non-comedogenic, and are both from Trader Joe's. I've used them for a week now, and recommend them both.

Asian Makeup Tips - Turquoise on the Asian Girl (Beauty Blog Post)

Why turquoise?

Because it's summer.

Out with grays and browns, and in with turquoise.

Turquoise is bright, beautiful, and truly perfect for sunny days.

But do Asians look good in Turquoise makeup?

Yes we do! Anyone does. Just make sure you apply the right shade(s) -- instead going excessively bright like neons, shoot for muted tones that agree with Asian skin.

L'oreal eye shadow in Glistening Sea.

This eye shadow is my personal pick. The color is, of course, beautiful. But what I really like is that this shadow contains a gold tint that match Asian women's natural undertone.

Also, the shadow has consistent formula, is easy to apply, and has fantastic lasting power. I highly recommend it.

Weekend Recommend - Glitter Head to Toe (Fashion Blog Post)

Where there is glitter...

Hello girlies. How is your weekend so far?

Today Jo and I attended a birthday party -- we left daddy and baby home to spend alone-time together -- and my daughter had a great time playing with friends.

There were many kids there, but I noticed that while the boys played with trains in one room, the girls danced in another room donning feathers, boa, and all kinds of shiny things.

Where there is locomotive, there are boys; and where there is glitter, there are (girlie) girls.

That's just how the world rolls.

Weekend Recommend - Glitter Head to Toe

1. Dresses That Dazzle

Speaking of girls in glitter, tonight is prom for many of Seattle's high schools. While stopping at a neighborhood view point, our family ran into a group of high school kids en route to prom.

(The view point, which captures Downtown Seattle's beautiful skyline, makes a stunning backdrop for pictures.)

All the girls looked lovely in their formals, but one of them completely stood out.

Her easygoing, one-shouldered dress draped comfortably from head to toe, but stilled looked extravagant with its all-over glitter.

To my surprise, the high school girl was extremely courteous, and let me post her picture below.

Thank you, high school kid I don't know!

The Latest in Men’s Denim Shirt Fashion (Fashion Blog Post)

This post was brought to you by Dave's New York at DavesNewYork.com

If you only buy one new shirt this spring, I’d suggest a chambray one. You may remember the chambray shirt from the 1980’s and 1990’s, when it was the uniform of preppy mothers and suburban gardeners. Erase those images from your mind. The chambray actually has its roots in rugged work wear, think railroad workers and cowboys. The modern variations of this men’s denim shirt are very cool and versatile and you are sure to look timelessly American. Don’t think you’re restricted to keeping it casual. It makes for a perfect match with a cotton jacket and tie on a hot city day, or with swim trunks and flip-flops on a sandy beach. There are versions for every style and price range. Some of the best are from Levi’s that have the western vintage look.

Thank you for reading.

My Favorite Fashion Blogs (Fashion Blog Post)

Warning! Post contains mildly explicit language and friendly rants.

Who is this self-absorbed fool who posts self portraits while sharing her favorite fashion blogs?

Sorry to be offending anyone, but this is my effing blog, and I can share whatever I want to.

This is also a fashion blog, about clothes and style I personally promote. Of course there will be self portraits.

Every fashion blogger does it. Either we are all self-absorbed, or none of us are.

Again, sorry if I'm offending you. But for f*ck's sake :O) you don't have to come back if you don't want to.

Fashion bloggers - we gotta stick together.

You Glow, Girl - 8 Things to Do for Glowing Skin (Skin Care Blog Post)

1. Educate yourself.

Why do pores become more visible as you age? How does cellulite deposit around your eyes? And at what time during the day do you lose the most moisture?

If you're befuddling over the questions above, it's time to seek answers from informative resources. Your skin is the largest organ on your body, and it requires dedication to maintain a healthy status. I'm not suggesting becoming a dermatologist, but I do feel that you should learn more about your skin before wasting another dime on useless -- and sometimes harmful -- products.

In Dana Ramos' The Beauty Regime, you'll learn how to get flawless, ageless skin with minimal products.
