The Time Capsule - Macy's Prom Event 2014 (Fashion Blog Post)

Seattle is (finally) catching on!

To a cool, new way of educating children called "Project-Based Learning." Brand new schools have established and set their entire infrastructure around the Project-Based Learning concept, in which students step outside of traditional classrooms, and learn by conducting projects from inception to delivery.

According to Queen Anne Elementary, one of the most successful new schools that adopted Project-Based Learning, "students go through an extended process of inquiry in response to a complex question, problem, or challenge. While allowing for some degree of student 'voice and choice,' rigorous projects are carefully planned, managed, and assessed to help students learn key academic content, practice 21st Century Skills (collaboration, communication, critical thinking & creativity), and create high-quality, authentic products & presentations." I like this dress's hi-lo style, and love how it dazzles!

Elegant black looks great against someone with darker skin tone.

What a great way to learn! What a practical way to learn!

I think this is how kids should learn!

My opinion doesn't come from nowhere; I've seen it in person: our three-and-a-half year old is terrible at following directions! Yet when it comes to Lego projects, which her interests have been growing towards, she follows those picture step-by-step's meticulously, and is able to concentrate and finish.

You should see the way her face lit up after completing each Lego build. She looked truly fulfilled.

Bottom line: people have more fun -- and therefore learn better -- with hands-on experience over textbook theories. (Fine. Our kid is my only evidence, but I stand firm on this one.)

This dress's uniqueness comes from its brilliant color. Coral is very on-trend right now.

I also like its be-jeweled belt - a brilliant way to accentuate the waist.

And when Everywhere Society contacted me to attend the Macy's Prom Event, and recommend a prom theme...

I HAD to think of a project-based theme:

A time capsule!

It's not as romantic as...say..."Under the Sea," or as "grown up" as "Mardi Gras," but c'mon kids! Let's do something different this year!

Love the color! If you go short, you might as well wear fun color too.

Another lovely hi-lo style. This one in lovely blush tone.

How beautiful is the flowing back! Even her exist made a statement.

Let the jocks work with the nerds! Let the Most-Likely-to-Succeed work with the Life-of-the-Party!

Let's group the class in total randomness, and have each group make a time capsule, put everyone's favorite items (at the time) in it, and bury it during prom for the next 10 years. Then, set up a time in the future when the group will come together to dig it up.

The shirt you wore when the Seattle Seahawks won the Superbowl? First love letter from your high school sweetheart? Your Time Capsule; your choice.

Interesting that these bright colors blended so well together.

This dress is color-blocking done right.

Where will you be in 10 years?

What will you be doing? Where will you live? Will you be married with children, or taking on the world alone in a private yet?

You are of Prom-age; You've got the whole world at your feet!

Consider the Time Capsule. It's good, clean fun.

My favorite! Head-to-toe brilliance.

I think a mono-tone, body-hugging gown looks most flattering.

The dress's champagne color looks great with her blond hair.

Unfortunately, our family no longer lives in Seattle, and therefore my children don't qualify for Queen Anne Elementary :O(

However, I will continue to conduct Project-Based Learning in supplement -- with or without an established institution.

And I hope -- and will most likely do it in vain -- that some bright, creative kid from a prom committee somewhere reads my suggestion for the Time Capsule theme.

Thank you Everywhere Society for your invitation and sponsor!

The prom dresses throughout this Fashion Blog post are from Macy's.

Aren't they lovely?

  2. I'm with you! How things are taught really needs to change. I think any child can learn anything if they're interested in a subject. Love this. Those dresses are so pretty.

  4. ohh i actually love the concept of that!! it's so true.. i definitely learn or get excited by things more when it's visual and i'm using my hands.. whenever i'm reading something boring (like an instruction manual) i swear my eyes glaze over lol! in fact looking back on it i probably would have done even better in school if this had been instituted when i was going to school lol!
