Best eyeliner for waterline? Urban Decay eyeliner review. (Beauty Blog Post)

Three factors determine the best eyeliner for waterline: it doesn't run or smudge, it lasts long, and it doesn't irritate.

When an eager salesperson introduced Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner pencil as the "best eyeliner for waterline," I knew exactly what to test for.

The eyeliner also cost around $20, which is twice the amount of quality drugstore liners, so expectation for Urban Decay was especially high.

Why so strict, girlie blogger? Because, you see, eyeliners are extremely personal to women.

In makeup realm, they signify "coming-of-age." They're like your first pair of heels, or your first lace bra. Once you put it on, you are immediately girl-no-more.

Eyeliners, especially dark eyeliners, are intense and seductive. They instantly smolder eyes and sexi-fy face. Sure you can wear them during the day, and you'll get better at creating softer effects with practice, but that initial introduction -- the shocking discovery of your own sexuality -- feels both exciting and intimidating.

Picture it: an innocent adolescent, who has never even held hands with boys, all of a sudden realizes that she could be sexy -- and do it with a "magic" pencil -- that's something!

As much as I adore makeup, I didn't wear eyeliner until graduating high school. And I truly don't want my daughters to wear them until they're of age as well.

Urban Decay Eyeliner Review

1. Did it run or smudge?

A little.

The outer and inner corners of both eyes smudged, but liner didn't drizzle down like I just ran in the rain. It was annoying to wipe below my eyes every hour, so I feel the eyeliner failed in this department.

2. Did it last?

Yes. It lasted for over four hours. That's a long time for an eyeliner.

3. Did it irritate?

The Urban Decay eye pencil has rich formula, and felt heavy too. I wasn't used to it at first, and definitely felt the weight under my eyes. But after a while, the discomfort went away. The next time I wore it, I barely noticed discomfort at all. I think it's a matter of getting used to the formula.

No irritation though. No redness, itchiness, or the like.

Any other raves and rants?

LOVE-LOVE the packaging! The pencil itself is long, lean, dark and sensual; and the box is 3D and metallic. The entire packaging represents the brand well - as in urban-looking.

I also liked the way the pencil applied. It glided on smoothly, even on my waterline, and drew precise lines.

The eyeliner I bought, named "perversion," has intense color. I really like that it's richly-pigmented.

As far as rants, I have none. Overall I think the Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil was a worthy purchase.

How about a rating now?

Hmmm...if it didn't smudge, I'd give it a higher score. But I think I'll go with an 8/10.

Re-purchase?

No. I don't regret the purchase. I like the Urban Decay liner, but for the same price point, I like MAC Feline better, because it didn't smudge and lasted longer. I will wait for it to come out again. (Feline's seasonal.)

Thanks for reading!

Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil may not have been the "best eyeliner for waterline," but it was good still. However, you can probably get better.

Hope the review helped.

Also, any quality eyeliners you'd recommend?

  10. I still need to try this eyeliner. I've read mixed reviews on it and think it may be something I'd like. I guess it's always hard to tell with things like liners isn't it? Great post though :D

  15. I use an Italian brand liner for the water line (Decoderm) because it doesn't irritate my eyes. Would you recommend a brand for very sensitive eyes? Big hugs

  16. Great review! Eyeliner was actually the first makeup item I ever wore (aside from sparkly lip gloss), and I opted for a brown shade to make it seem more natural! lol!
