Make Hair Grow Faster - Myth or Truth (Beauty Blog Post)

You have been told many ways to make hair grow faster. Are they all true? Today, let's visit age-old methods, and find out which ones are "myth," and which ones are "truth."

How to make hair grow faster - myth or truth

1. Trim your hair every six to eight weeks.

Myth

Hair grows from the follicles, not your ends. Although some trims can give you the appearance of fuller and longer hair, they do not grow hair faster.

2. Apply mayo.

Myth

Applying mayo, or any products, is completely topical. It makes your hair shiny and healthy, but doesn't speed hair growth.

3. Take supplements

Truth

Vitamins are absolutely necessary for healthy hair growth, especially vitamin c, which moisturizes skin, and vitamin B6, which promotes blood flow. To avoid vitamin definciency, you can Order hair vitamins, like Hair Formula 37. It's a nourishing supplement designed especially for faster hair growth.

4. Always use the same shampoo

Myth

Actually, you should switch shampoos once in a while. If you use the same shampoo all the time, it eventually stops working.

5. Massage scalp

Truth

Massaging your scalp increases circulation and blood flow, enriching follicles.

6. Use a hair brush with natural boar bristles

Truth

Natural boar bristles promotes hair growth by spreading natural oils from roots to ends, and gently massages scalp during use.

Are there any myth or truth you'd like to share on making hair grow faster?

Pillar Blog Posts and Filler Blog Posts

Like a real job, as a fashion and beauty blogger, you have good days, bad days, and days that are so swamped you don't have time to breath. But to give your blog fresh content, you have to fill up the bad days with short, thoughtless -- or even wordless -- content, no matter how much you want to write top notch posts.

What are pillar posts, and what are filler posts?

Pillar posts are the top notch posts you intend to write. They are well-researched, carefully crafted, and passionately insightful. They are the stars of the show, the type of posts you spend time -- and sometimes money -- to promote.

Filler posts are shorter posts used to maintain publishing momentum. They are not as well written, and don't offer much value, but are quick and fun to read.

Why is it important to have both pillars and fillers?

Pillar posts often address a need or answer a question, has evergreen content, are optimized for search engines, and are relevant to your blog's initial intent

Although filler posts seem sloppy, they keep a healthy rhythm, add variety, offer entertainment, and remind readers to come to your blog.

Examples of pillar posts

A beauty blogger's pillar post can be a product review, advice on makeup, or a celebrity look-alike tutorial. They require research, testing, investment (product purchase), trial-and-error, and detailed writing.

Similarly, a fashion blogger's pillar post can be "how to color block," "what to wear with a leopard cardigan," or "10 ways to glamorize boyfriend jeans" -- all with an embarrassing photo shoot at a crowded park.

Examples of filler posts

There are many types of filler posts. Here's what I've accumulated:

  • Wordless Wednesdays (a very popular idea among beauty bloggers)
  • Link Ups
  • Suggested Reads
  • Interviews (often with other bloggers)
  • Lists (top 5, 10 or however many, product empties, monthly favorites, etc.)
  • Quote | picture | funny moment | food | {insert your own} of the day
         or
  • A quick update, with a photo, on life

How often should you write pillar and filler posts?

Entirely up to you. I recommend at least one pillar post a week, and two or three filler posts in between.

Fashion and beauty bloggers need both pillar and filler posts to be successful.

Girlies, let's help each other.

If you have ideas for both pillar and filler posts, please share them by commenting!

Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow Review (Beauty Blog Post)

This review is the last of a series of Burberry makeup reviews, but it's certainly not the least. These Burberry eye shadows came in "almond" and "midnight brown." Both are muted browns; both flatter any skin tone. I really like their earthy colors, as well as the shadows themselves.

Here are my thoughts on Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow:

Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow (Eye Enhancer) Review

(Colors in "almond" and "midnight brown")

Price: $57.99 (Amazon.com)

Quality and Performance

  • Excellent formula! It's soft and consistent.
  • Did not flake or fall apart.
  • Smooth and velvety touch.
  • Extremely easy to manage. Shadow glided on with ease.
  • Great experience with application.

Pigmentation

  • Rich color.
  • Highly pigmented.
  • Looks great for everyday wear.

Almond is a lovely subtle color.

Midnight brown is a dark, sultry color, with tamed shimmer.

The two looked lovely together.

A very simple application of almond and midnight black.

Lasting Power

  • Shadow lasted a few hours.
  • Very impressive.

Packaging

  • Because I received a sample, I do not have first hand experience with packaging. But from pictures on the web, shadow came in a luxurious flip top box, and contains a sponge applicator.
  • It also has the signature Burberry print carved into each palette.
  • Very classy and beautiful packaging.

Overall Likes

  • Excellent quality.
  • Did not fall, flake or break.
  • Smooth and controlled application.
  • Highly pigmented.
  • Gorgeous brown colors.
  • Great for day.
  • Beautiful, classy packaging.

Overall Dislikes

  • None.

Overall Rating

10/10

I absolutely loved the Burberry eye shadows. They are on the expensive side, but are worth the price. And if you get a color like "almond," which you can wear all the time, you are getting your money's worth.

Again, thank you Miss. H.S. from Nordstrom for contacting me for the reviews.

Have you tried Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow yet?

It's a dream!

Skin Care Blog Post - How to Find the Perfect Foundation at the Drugstore

Drugstores sell great makeup brands, but won't let you try them on before purchase. Often, after you have bought something and excited opened the package, you realize that the color is off -- way off!

While a bad match is sometimes tolerable, like eye shadow, it's totally NOT okay to mismatch foundation. Picking the right shade of foundation is so important in achieving flawless skin.

Need help finding drugstore foundation? Check out the tips below.

1. Research

Research is key to finding the right product. Try review blogs or makeup forums for honest opinions from real women. Real women always offer the best insight. Also, it helps to find women who have similar skin tone.

2. Use Online Tools

Manufacturers like CoverGirl and Maybelline offer foundation finders on their websites. All you have to do is fill out a survey, and let the tool guide you to the right shade.

3. Bring a Match Point

If you already have a foundation that you like, bring it to the store. Match drugstore foundation to the one you have, and select the color that matches it the best.

4. Use a Blending Agent

When in doubt, blend. Try blending a bronzer or a darker shade with your new purchase to create a suitable color for your skin tone.

Picking the right shade of foundation can be tricky, but is entirely possible.

Do you have any advice to add?

Husband's Birthday - A Fashion Blog Post

Recently, we celebrated my husband's birthday. He was treated to (industrial-grade) baking equipment (he bakes as a hobby), a movie (Skyfall), and Thai food. I believe he enjoyed them all.

In turn -- and to my surprise -- he treated me to a mani and pedi, and two hours away from the kids. What a nice guy!

I wore this outfit to the Thai restaurant we tried. Thought I'd wear something bright like orange to offset a rainy, cloudy day.

By the way, here's what I thought of Skyfall:

Plot: interesting.
Daniel Craig: older but hotter.
(Did you know he married Rachel Weisz last year?)
New Bond Girl: hot but not so interesting.
Miss MoneyPenny: sassy, classy.
Must See? No. But I liked it, and would recommend it.

Have you seen Skyfall?

How was it?
