How to Save Money Shopping Online (Fashion Blog Post)

I like to shop.

Offline, online, doesn't matter. I can shop anytime, anywhere. However, when I became a stay-at-home mom, I had to deal with a tight budget that completely broke my shopping habit.

Yeah. Right.

I still shop; I just do it frugally now. Frugal is savvy, ya know :O)

First of all, why shop online?

Because it saves time.

No penetrating through traffic, or running in and out of stores; just plain consumer fun in the comfort of your own living room.

But you still gotta be frugal. An online bill racks up as fast as a physical one.

Before breaking bank (again), check out these tips on how to save money shopping online:

1. Know your size - your exact size

Returns cost money. Even if a store allows free returns, you still have to spend time repackaging and going to the post office.

To avoid return fees and the inconvenience, shop at familiar stores, where you know your exact size.

If you have doubts, don't buy it.

2. Choose stores with incentives

Incentives include free shipping for purchases over a certain amount, generous return policies, seasonal deals, holiday sales, etc. Basically, anything that benefits you, and gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.

In my book, ALL stores should offer incentives of some sort, but especially stores online.

Online stores are more cost-effective than physical stores. Therefore, they need to be that much more generous to customers, and offer completely alluring deals.

To become even savvier about finding online deals, try sites like Uniprice, where you can compare various online deals and find the highest discount.

3. Get your money back!

Well, at least some of it.

Always use credit cards that has a cash-back or bonus program.

Hey! Shopping is a hard job, and you should get paid for doing it.

Thanks for reading.

Hope the tips in this fashion blog post helped you out, or at least reminded you of the benefits of being a frugal shopper.

Happy Friday!

  1. you give great advice, I can not buy clothes online, I have to try on clothes, although sometimes it is very frustrating try on all the clothes from the store and not find anything that I like ...
but for all others: necklaces, earrings, handbags and makeup I buy them online.

  2. I definitely need to shop online more, especially when the companies offer free shipping and returns! Sometimes I just can't find the things I'm looking for in the shops and online has so much more :)

  6. Great tips! I so positively agree with your point on Returns. There's no point returning something. Sometimes, instead of packing, going to poist office, returning, mailing, tackling customer service, tension, getting new product - its easier to just give it to charity!!!

  8. I rarely, rarely shop online for clothes unless I'm 100% sure of my size - which means, zero online shoe shopping for me! I hate how returns always cost something!

  10. Thanks for the tips. I honestly do most of my shopping online but I hardly ever buy from places that don't offer some incentive like free or at least discounted shipping.

  11. Wonderful tips!!! I've been shopping online for years and love it. I would add, sign up for ebates or another online incentive program. It could work in conjunction with your credit card reward program. Great post!

  16. Oh I predict shopping online is going to kill Malls within the next 10 years. It is the only way especially if you have children or elderly to care for. It is such a time saver. I wish I could do more thrift shopping online! I have done a bit and it is great!!!

Thanks for the nice words of well wishing. I did so well I came back a day early. (to the computer, we didn't go out of town)
