Old Friend (Fashion Blog Post)

Do you have a lot of friends?

I bet you do. You have probably always been popular.

I don't have a lot of friends.

I intend not to. I have a lot of acquaintances, but only a handful of people, outside of family, that I can completely trust and call real friends.

Quality over quantity--to me that's important.

It takes years and years to become real friends with someone.

At least that's how I feel. But of course, you don't have to agree.

Give a little, take a little, and keep it consistent. If it's meant to be, you'll eventually open up to each other.

Take it easy and take it slow. Fast friends are worse than fast fling.

My mother-in-law was very popular.

She was friendly, and talked to everyone. But during her funeral, outside of her (massive) family, only one friend came. A friend she's had for over 35 years. The woman brought her entire family, and every single one of them wept as if they just lost one of their own. And she told us many, many stories of her and my mother-in-law. They gave us chuckle-breaks during a sad event.

I don't want a lot of people at my funeral. But I do want an old friend like that there.

I wore my old "friend" the other day.

This old gray shirt. It's not much, but it's comfortable, versatile, and a definite go-to. I bought it during my first pregnancy, and it's lasted longer than expected.

I wore it to meet up with an old friend. She's also a mother now. We ate pancakes, conversed about life, and commiserated about the woes of motherhood.

The thing about seeing old friends is that there's no warm up. They give you immediate comfort, even if you haven't seen each other for a while.

It's hard to find people you can be your complete self around.

Imagine that! Not one single worry about being judged.

Do you have a lot of friends?

I bet you do.

But I bet you have only a handful of real friends that you can trust.

I hope you treat them well, check up on them often, and hold on to their trust.

Good night!

  1. I think all the things you've mentioned are of real value. It's true that's it's lovely to have a lot of friends but to have a good tight ring of them who are true friends, who will come running when you need them is the most important aspect. To be honest I've only kept regular contact with about 5 people from highschool but the last two years has been great out in the 'real world', learning and realizing how work relationships and friendships at work and school are like after the teen years as I believe these are the years where you'd probably meet and be able to cultivate those friends who hopefully will be with you for a long time! Oh and by the way you are looking lovely! I really love the boots and jeans! Really must try that!

  2. I don't have a lot of friends and I'm happy. People that I thought were friends were not true. I'm so much happier now, since I've deleted them out of my life. They were superficial. It was about what you wore, had, your hair, job etc. I wasn't me. I wasn't happy. This was a beautiful post. Love your outfit! That shirt is awesome. Love your necklace and boots.

  4. I love your outfit, and I like your message a lot. I don't have many friends and I don't want to either. I keep to myself a lot but I have a good network of family and support :)

  5. You look so pretty in your outfit! I love your boots!
I agree with what you wrote here soo much! I tend to to talk to a wide group of people I talk to and a very tiny circle of friends (as in 2 haha) that I consider good friends. It scares me though since we are all going to different colleges next year so we'll have to see what happens! Hopefully we'll still be good friends!!

  7. I completely relate to everything said here. I'm a natural introvert, so it's difficult for me to open up and make friends. I have acquaintances, but I'm grateful to have found at least three friends that I consider true friends. To be able to open up and completely be myself around them is freeing.
Anyway, love this casual grey tee! It's the perfect equivalent of an old friend :)
