Fashion Blog Post - What to Wear for Valentine's Day

By Guest Post

Valentine’s Day is looming, and the panic will start over what to wear for first dates, old dates and girly nights out to celebrate being single! It can be difficult to know what to wear when going on a date for the first time, so I’ve put together some outfit ideas for different first date scenarios!

Movie

If you want to look cute without going too sexy, a knee length skirt can look feminine without being too “done-up”. Team a printed skirt with a block colour blouse to create an eye-catching outfit that will look good and be comfortable for spending hours in the cinema! If you’re not keen on wearing skirts and dresses than some printed trousers or jeans will work just as well; just tuck the blouse in to create a clean silhouette that shows off your best assets!

Dinner

This is hopefully your opportunity to dress up a little more and have some fun! A cute little black dress and some heels is perfect for dinner and drinks, this lace LBD is striking enough to look gorgeous but modest enough to make sure you feel comfortable… because eating a meal in a tiny, tight dress is a recipe for disaster! There’s nothing worse than feeling bloated in skin-tight clothing, so if you really want to flaunt your curves take an emergency cardigan or jacket to put on if you over-indulge or get too cold.

Coffee

For a simple coffee date, choose something that reflects your personality without being too casual; whilst you want to be comfortable, you need to look like you’ve made a little effort. After all, you want to impress your date! Heels are out unless they’re your fashion diet staple, and flats are definitely in. A jeans and t-shirt combo can work well here, as long as you wear something smart and fitted. A simple wrap dress can work well in this situation – it’s feminine and smart/casual, as well as being comfortable and easy to throw on. Just pick out some matching shoes and a handbag and you’re ready to go!

Clubbing

If you’re brave enough to take a date out clubbing or dancing, you’ll definitely be brave with your dress choices! It’s your chance to go all out sexy and really impress him. Choose something fitted and above the knee without going too short, and make sure it’s a vibrant colour! Whilst a little black dress is definitely a safe way to wow him, going for your favourite colour will really show off the real you and make sure you stand out in what’s bound to be a sea of LBDs in the nightclub or bar.

Now if you’re crazy enough to agree to a “surprise” date, you only have yourself to blame if you’re dressed wrongly for the occasion! But on a serious note, it’s always best to stick to smart-casual and flat shoes to prepare yourself for any occasion; it’s always better to be slightly over-dressed than under-dressed! More importantly, just remember to relax and have fun – that’s the whole point of Valentine’s Day!
